Protea Retirement Village Centurion is undergoing a phase of transformation.  Various legislations (Acts), norms and standards need to be taken into account to implement Homecare Services. Your well-being is our priority and for this matter Protea Group Head Office established Protea Care Clinic that offers a bundle of various Care and Support services. 

To admit, the need for physical or emotional help and accepting assistance is not easy for    people as they age. The responsibility often falls on neighbours and family to recognize the signs that an elderly loved one might need support. 

Protea Care Clinic is a registered private nursing practice. Our staff are fully trained, carefully selected and supervised by our Clinic Nursing Sister. To operate a well-established Care service calls for a special management style, people-centered services with an effective structure in place to ensure the resident remains independent and self-supporting for as long as possible. 

How do you know if it is time for care?  Look for the red flags; – changes in physical function, changing in mental status, poor personal hygiene, forgetfulness, neglecting household responsibilities and signs of unsafe driving. 

When a resident(s) requires extra care – The Protea Care Clinic Nursing Sister contacts the family and the resident.  The Nursing Sister does a home visit and arrange for a family meeting with the resident.  In consultation with the resident and the family, the most convenient and effective Care plan is established after assessment (DQ98).  A contract is signed to formalize the Care agreement.  

Continuous communication and supervision are important to ensure the building of a personal, caring and trust relationship with the resident and the family. Our aim is to ensure our resident(s) function optimally within their home and in the Village.

AIM:  To create an affordable resident(s) centered Care service, focusing on the clinical and personal needs of the resident and family involved.

Herewith short description of various Care and Support services Protea Care Clinic offers to our resident(s) 

First level of care

• Emergency: Press your panic button.  Our team caring staff is 24/7, 7 days a week available or phone the 24/7 Clinic number 071 272 4436
• Clinic Services: Monday to Friday (10h30 – 12h30), Protea Care Nursing Sister is available to all residents of Protea Retirement Village Centurion.
• Personal Information: It remains the resident(s) responsibility to keep their personal information updated at Protea Care Clinic.
• New occupants: Report to Protea Care Clinic to meet our friendly staff and make an appointment for assessment (DQ98) with the clinic sister.
• Nursing Sisters Rounds – Monday to Friday (08h30 – 10h30)
• Private Care: Where private Caregivers work in the village, the family and/or resident(s) have to inform Protea Care Clinic, to ensure personal information and DQ98 of the resident(s) are updated and to ensure the private care worker have the required qualification and access card to enter the Village.

Protea care clinic homecare & support services

• The Nursing Sister uses a process of Care management to ensure the resident and family are informed and the real needs are addressed. A comprehensive care plan is compiled in co-operation with the resident, family and multi-disciplined team. Please make an appointment with the sister to discuss if more detail is required.

Appointments between 13h00 – 15h30.

• Our services are available around-the-clock for both short- and long-term care to or resident(s).
• Medicine Management, ILKO Care (All comprehensive), General Care, Caregiver checks, Post hospital Care, Sleep-in options & Call outs.

Multi-disiplinary team

Protea Care Clinic co-ordinates the services of various Multi team members to your doorstep, some residents are not as mobile as others and some really appreciate Clinic and home environment visits. 

As from January 2020 two groups of doctors will have Doctor’s consultation hours at Protea Care Clinic.  The resident has to make an appointment at Protea Care Clinic Nursing Sister.

• Drs Nel practice: H. Nel – On appointment basis only – Please contact the Protea Care Clinic sister.  Doctor is available on various days when she is not in surgery. 

For all specialized services, please ask your General Practitioner for referral letter. They can take note of any special requests, doctors’ orders and they would like to give some feedback to them about the patient.

• Information desk: Medical conditions, Multi-team members, Pre- & Post operation Care, Medical services, Medical Supplies, Equipment and Funeral Services
• Transport: Ambulance services
• Safety & Health: Visit our Clinic to test your panic button and ensure your personal information is up to date for our records.
• Medical & Incontinent Waste: The availability of a Red bin for medical and incontinence waste at a monthly fee.
• Meals: The convenience and availability of meals as booked at the dining room.
• Spiritual Services: Should you wish to be visited by your religious leader or a member of your denomination contact Protea Care Clinic.
